Building Credit WorthinessPosted on September 10, 2010
Everyone starts off with a clean credit slate at age 18. Using credit to establish a good credit history from the beginning is wise. Trinity Credit Services currently speaks to young people to help them get the best start possible. (Call us at 1-888-669-7372 for more information about our credit education program).
Many people don’t realize that your credit history affects many aspects of your future, ranging from your career choices to your dream house. If over time you have established poor credit, you could benefit from credit repair. Credit repair and a commitment to change your financial behavior will give you a chance to establish useful credit.
Make Sure Your Credit Report is Accurate
Before you try to get a home loan or apply for other types of credit, it is wise to first check out your credit report. Call Trinity Credit Services at 1-888-669-7372 for your free credit report consultation. Our credit consultants will go over your credit reports and look for false and inaccurate items on your credit report. We can try to get these items permanently removed before you apply for credit so that you qualify for lower interest rates.
Establish Credit
An easy way to start accumulating credit history is to open a checking or savings account with a bank. Having a bank account open for several years will signal stability to potential lenders. You can also file a joint account with someone who already has established credit history. Be careful who you team up with as their credit successes and failures will affect your score once you align yourself with them.
Responsible Use of Credit Cards
Apply for a credit card, but only one. Use this card as a tool to establish credit and pay balances off on time. Too many inquiries or applications will take points off your credit score. Choose a card with the lowest interest rates possible and avoid annual fees if possible. You can also apply for a secured card, which is a pre-paid credit card. Be cautious with these and look for one without an application fee, is reported to all three credit bureaus and will convert into a regular revolving credit card after you have successfully made your payments on time for a year or so.
If you pay off your debts and use credit with caution, you should have a clear path to good credit.
